NEWS ARCHIVE
Good News? This is were old news goes - good or bad.
May 2009 to October 2008
9 May
Like we said below, Sunday May 10, Mothers' Day, mums can skate for free (if they bring at least one of the kids).
Big shake up in the skating world with major manufacturers amalgamating and some local suppliers going off-shore. Good excuse for us to find you even better bargains! During this "reorganisation" some deliveries may take an extra day or two than normal.
20 April
Back to school and back to regular term hours from today. Remember we open as usual on Saturday 25 April (ANZAC Day). Also welcome back to all of our hockey players as the new season kick-starts today. And, let's not forget Mothers - where would we be without them! Sunday May 10, Mothers' Day, mums can skate for free (if they bring at least one of the kids).
1 April
No mention of April fools here...
School Holidays start next week and as always we have extra sessions running. We also open Good Friday & Easter Sunday. No recession at Rollerway. $11 for up to 3 hours of fun (including hire) is pretty good value!
21 March
Busy times ATM with staff training, roller hockey league finals, new season sign-ups, special school promotions, and getting ready for the Easter School Holidays. So if we are a tiny bit slower than usual, please forgive us.
NEXT WEEK!

The boys get their turn on Friday March 27th, from 7:30-10:30, and as always, we offer the boys FREE admission to the centre and of course like with other similar events this offer does not apply to groups or parties. Hire charges are the usual $3 pp. BTW, girl's are welcome on that night too!
22 February
Fire relief fundraiser on this evening - SEE HERE
We open Labour Day for public/general skating from 1:30-4:30, and for roller hockey from 6:30 PM, as usual.
Girl's Night Out is on next Friday night, from 7:30-10:30 - girls get in FREE.
15 February
We were all looking forward to hosting the inline hockey event of the Australian Masters Games at our centre, but due to circumstances beyond our control, the event has been cancelled although some of the players may now participate in a fundraiser for the bushfire relief appeal. More info in our hockey news section HERE.

Don't forget we have extra sessions during the school holidays up to 27 January, inclusive.
3 January 2009
Happy New Year folks. Our extra school holiday sessions will now run through to Tuesday 27 January, inclusive. Roller hockey resumes 19 January for most leagues. Check out our summer specials in the Skate Shop!
22 December
We will be closing for maintenance tomorrow at 4:30 PM and reopening at 11:00 AM 2 January 2009. NB ON-LINE SHOP ALWAYS OPEN although some deliveries may be slightly delayed.
Once again, best wishes to all and thank-you for the past year. This December was the busiest month we have had in a while with our on-line shop beating last year's skate sales record by over 50% and with more schools using us for end of year programs than for quite a while with over 300 EXTRA kids per week participating.
Perhaps it was due to a combination of factors ranging from simple things like the weather, to one-ff events like the little Family Payment's bonus, or the extra visits to schools by our staff, but most bookings preceded these events so we hope it is an indication of the growing interest in skating and it inspires us to work even harder in 2009!
1 December
First, thank-you to all the regular skaters, the birthday party people, the hockey players, our occasional customers, the schools that bring their students through out the year, the groups that use our centre to celebrate their special occasions, our mail order and internet shop customers, our suppliers, friends, family & staff, for the support throughout the past year and in keeping us strong when other sectors of the economy are struggling a little bit. Sincerely, best wishes to you all and may the coming year be even better for us all!
-o-O-o-
With the school holidays officially starting on Saturday 20 December we should mention that we will be running extra sessions, as we normally do, but also that we will close down over Christmas/New Year for a few days as we normally do too, for annual maintenance.
So we will have extra sessions Monday & Tuesday 22 & 23 December, followed by the close-down from Christmas Eve to New Years Day, inclusive, and back to normal from Friday, 2 January 2009. In other words:
CENTRE CLOSED 24 December to 1 January INCLUSIVE
**REOPEN 2 January @ 11:00am**
ONLINE SHOP ALWAYS OPEN
As always, the online shop will take orders throughout the break, although some of our suppliers may be closed and a few items may be unavailable.
Hope to see you skating this summer.
29 November

11 November
As I write this the chances are that you cannot read it! Why? Our local ISP was purchased by a larger national ISP who was sending email information to an old email address and they lost track of us!! The problem is now solved but it will take 24-48 hours for the updates to propagate through the DNS before you can see us again!!! Sorry for any inconvenience.

The internet is a great place - but only when it works, LOL

Last day of the school holidays (boo! say some of the kids and hurrah! some of the mums, perhaps?)
Back to our regular times for public skating, roller hockey, and school programs from tomorrow.
8 July
Hope you are all enjoying the school holidays. They said the economy was slowing down due to higher interest rates but so far it hasn't deterred the skaters in our community (fortunately for us).
Although this is our most popular holiday for skating we are still able to look after birthday parties & groups, so don't hesitate to book in!
After careful consideration, we are now permitting BMX bikes in the Skate Park, although you will need to remove your pegs. Have fun!
23 June
Today, the first of several of our "international" inline (roller) hockey players took to the air on route to the US to participate in two international tournaments: the Junior Olympics & the World Championships, both in Philadelphia. For more hockey news follow the above link.
Although it's been said before, most people only read the last couple of news items so: School holidays are starting in a few days and we get to remind you that so do our extra sessions during the week.
September school holidays are another matter, although our new extended care program will be starting then (see below).
16 June

March & April 2008 News
26 April
Our Hockey Finals have now concluded (SEE HERE FOR RESULTS) - Well done everyone! The NEW SEASON starts week beginning 12 May, including our inaugural Women's League.
-o0o-
The good thing about being a sporty nation is that we have lots of sporty people. One bad thing seems to be the lack of government funding for our elite sports people, because "the powers that be" know we are going to compete anyway and probably do okay. Can you guess why we are taking this tone?
The above is just a bit of feedback following the Oceania's Inline (Roller) Hockey
Championships. The Aus players had not trained together until they landed in NZ. It seems that the NZ players had been flown from around their country, each weekend for weeks, to train together at the venue where they would be competing, at government expense!
No doubt you have guessed by now that the NZ teams dominated Aus. (That stings a bit.) This was true in all divisions except in the 18's where after two losses, the young guns, including Geelong's own Jake Aparicio fought back to win the remaining 3 games and take out the Gold Medal! Great job guys!!!
We are all now looking forward to the Victorian Titles in June for many or our local players, and the AAU Junior Olympics and FIRS Junior World Roller/Inline Hockey Titles in Philadelphia in June/July for those who made the Aus teams.
-o0o-
Our next public holiday is the Queens Birthday Holiday on 9 June. As with most public holidays, we are running an extra afternoon session (1:30-4:30). It is also the weekend we will be sending players to play in the Roller Hockey Vic Championships (wonder who is going to stay back and work?).
16 April
Oceania's Inline (Roller) Hockey
Championships between Aus & NZ, played at Palmerston North in NZ from April 19-23 will have two local representatives. Ashlie Aparicio is part of the Junior Lady's Team and Jake Aparicio is in with the 18's Team. Good luck!
15 April
The first week of finals in our local roller hockey leagues has only just started and we have already seen a few upsets and some tough matches, with some of the positions for the coming Grand Finals already determined in some divisions. See HERE for finals times (updated within 48 hrs of the games played).
